Natural Support for Joint Pain

Natural Support for Joint Pain
Whether you have occasional joint pain, an injury, or full-blown arthritis, joint pain and stiffness are common complaints. Your joints get a lot of daily wear and tear and you are probably looking for relief. If you have already started to feel wear and tear on your joints, you know it can really interfere with your daily tasks. Don’t just mask the pain with pain killers. Consider using nutrition to help reduce inflammation, reverse joint break down, and repair damage that has already been done.

Glucosamine & Chondroitin – Glucosamine is an important structural molecule, helping to form glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), the major building blocks of connective tissue and joints. A lack of glucosamine reduces the ability to produce connective tissue at the proper rate. Supplementation with glucosamine has been shown in clinical trials to ease joint discomfort and improve joint mobility. Stay away from glucosamine sulfate though. It is unstable and degrades when exposed to moisture.

Chondroitin is a major component of the extra cellular matrix, important in maintaining structural integrity. Numerous chondroitin sulfate molecules, glucosamine molecules, and sulfur-containing proteins form larger aggregates known as proteoglycans, which are used to make cartilage of joints. Look for purified chondroitin sulfate, the highest quality available.

MSM Sulfur – MSM sulfur (methylsulfonylmethane) is a compound that naturally occurs in fruits, vegetables, and grains. Hair, skin, bones, the nervous system, connective tissue, and joints require sulfur compounds as an integral part of their healthy structure. Several studies demonstrate MSM is helpful for joint pain even if caused by arthritis. After human trials, sulfur supplementation improved health of knee cartilage, free radical damage of the joint, recovery time in athletes, and pain levels.

Hyaluronic Acid – Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a primary component of the synovial fluid that surrounds the joints. Synovial fluid is the lubrication for joints, much like oil is used to lubricate moving parts in a machine. It is also important for feeding nutrients to joint cartilage. HA helps joints have resiliency, ease of movement, and cushioning, providing natural shock absorption. Never supplement with the cheap form, sodium hyaluronate, which is different structurally from natural HA and poorly absorbed. Low molecular weight HA from rooster comb is the best absorbed form.

Curcumin – Curcumin is the yellow pigment derived from the spice turmeric. It is widely researched for its health benefits as an anti-inflammatory nutrient. Inflammation is a root cause of joint pain, stiffness and deterioration. If you want to get your joint issues under control, you will need to put out the inflammatory fire going on in the joint.
Modern research shows that curcumin is successful at suppressing inflammation in chondrocytes, the carpenter cells of cartilage. It is no surprise that curcumin has been proven to reduce joint destruction and the synovial fluid of joints in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Through the pathway of inflammation reduction, curcumin is successful at reducing joint pain and swelling quickly.

Boswellia – Boswellia serrata, also known as frankincense, has traditionally been used by Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years to reduce inflammation and joint pain caused by arthritis. Modern day studies have supported this use by showing it helps improve joint pain, knee mobility, and walking distance. Some pain killers (NSAIDs) can further break down joint cartilage, but boswellia works differently. It reduces pain by keeping joints healthier by protecting the backbone of cartilage called glycoaminoglycans (GAG’s). Look for the most potent form of boswellia called 5-Loxin which provides ten times the potency of plain boswellia.

When wear and tear on your body is allowed to continue, you are more likely to develop aches and pains. Your body needs enough rejuvenating nutrients to help offset wear and tear. The greater your demands on your body and the more inflammation, the higher your body's need for nutrients. Use high quality nutritional supplements to support repair processes, maintain healthy cartilage, and keep you active and pain free through your life.
