Study Title:

Inside Your Health: Appendix Removal Surgery

Study Abstract

Each year, more than 200,000 people visit the operating room to have their appendix removed.

According to the American College of Surgeons, "surgery is the standard treatment for an acute, sudden infection of the appendix."

However, a study published this week in the “Journal of the American Medical Association” questions whether a surgery is always necessary, potentially forcing surgeons to re-think the status quo.

KSTP medical expert Dr. Archelle Georgiou discusses appendicitis symptoms and various treatment options.

View what she has to say about the topic in the video player above.
